How to make your introductions and conclusions sparkle!
Aristotle often gets credit for this (literally) classic advice about how to structure a rhetorical piece: “First, tell them what you’re going to tell them. Then tell them. Then tell them what you’ve just told them.” Well – sorry, but Aristotle was completely, totally, horribly wrong (at least when it comes to most forms of academic writing). And yet many students and teachers still think an intro and a conclusion should be written this way, as just a dry repetition of the main points.
In this Writing Gab, Abbie and Joe will show you some specific and simple strategies for putting your intros and conclusions to better use – by quickly pulling readers into the heart of your work, and then sending them home happy afterward. And, as always, after we share our advice, we’ll invite you to share yours and join the conversation.
