Miloš Fišar: Reproducibility in Management Science
-
6. února 2025
14:00 – 15:00 - P201, Ekonomicko-správní fakulta, Lipová 41a
Public lecture within the habilitation procedure of Miloš Fišar in the field of Economics.
Social science, economics, or business research aims to provide credible evidence that policy leaders can rely on for their decision-making. However, the trustworthiness of scientific results can vary, especially on the degree to which the results are transparently documented (reproducible) and widely applicable (replicable). With the help of over 700 reviewers, we analyzed replication materials from nearly 500 articles published in Management Science. Our findings highlight the significant impact of a data disclosure policy, which requires reproducibility materials to be included along with the published article. The articles published under this policy achieved an impressive reproducibility rate of 95%, a substantial increase from the 55% rate observed before the policy was implemented. Despite this improvement, the overall reproducibility rate currently stands at 68%, mainly due to challenges like restricted access to data. We also discuss various factors—including reviewer expertise, methodological approaches, and field-specific practices— that affect reproducibility outcomes.
Based on a paper authored by Miloš Fišar, Ben Greiner, Christoph Huber, Elena Katok, Ali I. Ozkes, and the Management Science Reproducibility Collaboration
