Academics & Education
Department of Psychology FoA MU offers studies in both undergraduate and postgraduate (PhD) study programmes in Psychology. The teachers, apart from 25 home staff members, also include leading experts from the Institute of Psychology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic ( ), as well as experienced clinical and counselling specialists. The list of the courses offered at the department can be found here.
The Master’s Degree Programme consists of two cycles. The first cycle is concluded by a General Exam, which has to be taken no later than seven semesters after the beginning of one’s studies (i.e. there is no Bachelor’s Degree – the General Examination does not represent any official qualification). The second study cycle concludes with a State Exam, which should be taken at the end of the 14th semester at the latest. While the first cycle is primarily devoted to the study of theoretical psychological disciplines, the second cycle is more concerned with different areas of application. Apart from the three different specializations – clinical psychology, counselling and organizational psychology – the students also attend courses focusing on psychological testing, essentials of psychotherapy, or research methodology. In this part of the studies, great emphasis is placed on an integrative approach.
The State Exam is preceded by an official defence of the M.A. thesis. The postgraduate PhD study programme proceeds in internal and external forms under the guidance of internal advisors (department employees) or external advisors (mostly academics affiliated with the Academy of Sciences).
